Improvement meme 2006-2013

Prepared this last year but never came around to posting it, decided to breath life into it and added this year. Better late than never?

2006 - ah yes upper secondary school, good times. B) The first picture with the ghost is actually one of my first drawings in photoshop/digitally. Might even be the first. Drew a mix of things, though mostly humans or transformers. Tried to draw vehicles as well, but not much.

2007 - still poking around and trying to figure out how things work. Lineart is mostly traditional, though I think this might have been the year when I got my first tablet?

2008 - Drew digitally more, mainly scraps and base sketches when venturing on paper. Shame, some of the finished traditional pieces are actually pretty good. Should have gone for that a bit more.

2009 - The year noses became a burden for real. Had turned much more towards a more "manga/anime"ish influenced style with noses. Everyone got the same nose (they still do most of the time, but shush ) and I was never happy with how they turned out. Made some progress with colouring.

2010 - Still struggling with noses, made some progress with them at times but nothing permanent I suppose. Again, progressing when it came to colouring. Tried painting digitally, like the second image, should have done more of that.

2011 - Still having a good time with colouring, made slight progress with lineart as well. Not sure what happened with the noses. Regardless it was not quite the direction I wished them to take. Started to draw much more transformers and other fanart.

2012 - Major improvement in the lineart department. Still fucking around with noses, but finally sort of figuring out which direction to take them. Still having fun with colouring. Started to take a greater interest in using textures as well.

2013 - The year I fell in love with so many of my sketches. Am actually satisfied with they look most of the time. Made some major improvements despite taking a lengthy 'break' during the summer (which is usually the time I develop the most). Been drawing a lot of transformers with the occasional original piece.


These things are always interesting to look at, it's fun to really see and compare how ones style have developed over the years but also to see what turns it has taken. Sometimes I've started on one path but was not fully comfortable with how things turned out, thus slowly gravitating away from it and towards something different, only to later end up on a similar path.
